Hire Web Designers Who Understand Your Business

Building a website sounds easy. Put a few elements together, move some photographs and the job is done. Why then would it be necessary for a Web Designer to understand the business that the website is being built for?

Well it is essential and something that I always like to get a good grip on before starting out. There are loads of little questions and clues as to how the website will be used that will ultimately steer the design of the site to make sure that a fully working site is created. If your web designer puts your website together without understanding your business, you may still be happy with the result, but you might not get the best result.

When it comes down to it there are clues all the way. Some of these are about how you run your business and how that will merge in with the website. If your business just wants to use the website as an online business card that it can use to show case various previous projects to customers, then you want a brochure site with these features easy to find.

But if you are wanting the website to be a source of more work, then your web designer needs to understand how you expect the website to be promoted. Are you hoping that by having a website you will instantly see a flurry of people finding your business or do you intend to market the website?

There is a lot more than this though that your Web Designer needs to understand. How your business operates and the field that it operates in is vital. Who are your typical customers and what are they looking for? There is always a huge temptation when designing a website to build it for the business owner, who can typically end up asking for a lot of their ideas included. But if they are not also the typical customer then this can be a problem.

There is a world of difference between a website that is built as an add on to an eBay shop, where the majority of the customers arriving at the site will be hunting for bargains, and a top class high end product website where the customers want class, style and are willing to pay extra to know that they are getting a top end product.

Little design choices sneak in with this sort of understanding. If your business operates in the discount field then offers around the page and a good discount system will work wonders for extra sales. But these same features might put off those people that want to buy the top quality items and would never be seen dead shopping in eBay.

There are so many little decisions in the background from how you will promote the site, add ons to the page and even the color scheme and layout that only comes from a designer that understands correctly your business. Make sure you choose a Dedicated Web Designer willing to get to know you, or walk away.
